Carusone finished seventh of 41 competitors with a season-best vault of 15-9, exactly one foot better than his previous top mark of the season. His performance also equaled the IC4A Indoor Championship qualifying standard, making him the fifth Orangemen to become eligible for the regional competition.
Carusone garnered All-BIG EAST honors as a freshman, finishing second in the pole vault at the 2000 BIG EAST Indoor Championship. He has already qualified for this season's conference championship to be held at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse on February 17-18.
The sophomore is the third Orange track & field student-athlete to be recognized by the ECAC this season. Sophomore thrower Steve Bedard (Windsor, Ontario) earned the Field Athlete of the Week honor on January 16, while junior sprinter Alison Culley (Foxborough, MA) was named the women's Track Athlete of the Week on January 9.
The Orange will host the Syracuse Invitational at Manley Field House on Saturday, February 3. The field events will get underway at 8 a.m. with the running events commencing at 11:30 a.m.
