PISCATAWAY, N.J. - A pair of goals by freshmen forwards Natalie Galas (Sterling Heights, Mich./Bishop Foley) and Stephanie Sybert (Baltimore, Md./Maryvale Prep) gave the Syracuse University women's soccer team a 2-1 comeback victory against Rutgers on Sunday afternoon at Yurcak Field.
Rutgers got on the board first when Meghan Cameron placed a shot past SU freshman keeper Shannon Myers (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) at 14:39 for a 1-0 lead. The Orangewomen tied the game at 1-1 when co-captain Candy Reich's (Pembroke, Mass./Silver Lake Regional) shot was rebounded and put home by Galas at 18:15.
Syracuse would net the game-winner with less than five minutes remaining in regulation as Sybert took a pass from Reich at midfield and scored from the top of the penalty box for the final 2-1 score.
Reich's two assists brought her season total to seven, tying a career-high and placing her in a tie for second on the SU all-time list for single-season assists.
Rutgers outshot Syracuse 12-10 in the game. Christine Caldwell made three saves in goal for the Scarlet Knights, while Myers had six stops in net for SU.
Syracuse improved to 8-4 overall. SU will play Dartmouth on Wednesday, Oct. 17, at the Soccer Stadium. The game will be broadcast on Time-Warner Cable and will be aired at 8 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 19. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
