
DiCruttalo Leads 19th-Ranked Field Hockey Past Providence, 1-0

Senior forward Caylyn Dicruttalo (Gloversville, N.Y./Gloversville) netted what proved to be the game-winning goal at the 19:05 mark of the second half as No. 19-ranked Syracuse defeated Providence, 1-0, in BIG EAST field hockey action at Hendricken Field. It was Dicruttalo's second goal of the season and third of her career.
For the Orangewomen, it marked their ninth-straight victory, tying the school's longest win streak since 1993. That year, the team won nine consecutive contests on their way to the BIG EAST Championship and the NCAA quarterfinals.
The Friars dominated much of the game. They held a 9-1 advantage in shots after the first half and finished with an 18-5 edge. They clearly had the upper hand in penalty corners, gaining 12 more than the Orangewomen (20-8), including a 16-5 advantage in the second period.
Sophomore goalkeeper Betsy Wagner (Cherry Hills, Colo./Colorado Academy) withstood the pressure in her first career start for the Orangewomen. She finished with nine saves in earning her first complete shutout.
Seven different Orangewomen have been responsible for SU's 11 game-winning goals this season. In its last three games, SU's eight goals have been tallied by six different players.
Syracuse improves to 11-2 overall, 4-0 in the BIG EAST. Providence's record drops to 9-5, 1-4 in the conference. The Orangewomen are all alone in first place in the league.
SU hosts Quinnipiac at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 21, at Coyne Field. The Orangewomen will be looking to up their record to 8-0 at home this season.
