Junior midfielder Kristin Aronowicz (Exton, Pa./Downingtown) registered her third career hat trick and freshman forward Meredith Gettel (Rehrersburg, Pa./Tulpehocken) added two goals as No. 19-ranked Syracuse came back from a 2-0 deficit to defeat Quinnipiac, 6-2, at Coyne Field. It was the 10th-straight victory for the Orangewomen who improved to 12-2 on the season. It is the longest win streak since the 1991 team won a school-record 12 games in a row.
Quinnipiac (10-6) jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead behind goals by Kristin Crosby and Heather Cady. Crosby's goal came off a penalty-corner play, while Cady punched in a loose rebound.
The Orangewomen tied the score at 2-2 before the half ended. Aronowicz created her own shot with 15:55 remaining in the opening stanza. Gettel slapped in a rebound from the right post at the 5:30 mark.
In the second half, Syracuse picked up its intensity as it has done for much of the season. SU has scored 28 of its 41 goals this season during second halves.
Aronowicz netted back-to-back goals off penalty corners to kick off the scoring in the second period. Junior midfielder Michelle Marks (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) assisted on Aronowicz's second goal of the game at the 20:11 mark. Red-shirt freshman forward Ann-Marie Guglieri (Carmel, N.Y./Carmel) and senior forward Caylyn Dicruttalo (Gloversville, N.Y./Gloversville) set up Aronowicz's third goal with 15:32 remaining in the contest.
Gettel knocked in another rebound to give SU a 5-2 lead at the 14:46 mark. It was her third goal of the season.
Junior back Missy Grosman (Emmaus, Pa./Emmaus) received a pass from Marks at the top of the circle and took two dribbles inside the arc for a shot. Her drive ricocheted off the Quinnipiac goalkeeper's hand pad and into the back of the net with 12:59. That goal, Grosman's third of the season, capped off the game's scoring.
Sophomore goalkeeper Betsy Wagner (Cherry Hills, Colo./Colorado Academy) made her second consecutive start for the Orange. She recorded five saves, all in the second half.
Aronowicz, who also scored three goals this season against Cornell, moved into 10th place on the school's all-time scoring list. She now has 67 career points on 29 goals and nine assists. Her older sister, Michelle, a senior, is seventh on the ledger with 75 career points (30 goals, 15 assists).
Kristin Aronowicz leads the Orangewomen in scoring with 28 points and a team-high 13 goals. Her 13 goals lead the BIG EAST.
Syracuse travels to No. 15-ranked Penn State on Tuesday, Oct. 23, for a 3 p.m. start. The Orangewomen host Connecticut in their final regular-season game on Sunday, Oct. 28, at 1 p.m. They will be playing for the BIG EAST regular-season title.
Head coach Kathleen Parker's team is 8-0 at home this season and has won nine straight at Coyne Field since Oct. 22, 2000.
