Orangemen Travel to Villanova for Mid-Week Conference Match

The Syracuse men's soccer team will look to rebound from its first shutout loss of the season when it travels to Villanova on Wednesday, Oct. 3. Kickoff is scheduled for 12 p.m. The Orangemen are 3-3 overall and 1-2 in conference play, while the Wildcats are 2-5 overall and 1-3 in the BIG EAST.
The Syracuse offense is led by sophomore forward Kirk Johnson (Chester Springs, Pa./Downingtown). Johnson has a team-best give goals and 12 points, including a hat trick in the Orangemen's 5-0 win versus Providence on Sept. 22. Rookie Jarett Park (Tully, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy) is second on the team with nine points, including a team-leading five assists.
Senior co-captain John Andrade (East Providence, R.I./East Providence) has also been a productive with six points on a goal and four assists. Senior forward Matt Torok (Wyomissing, Pa./Wyomissing) has come back from a knee injury that sidelined him in 2000 to score two goals and two assists.
The Orangemen have used three goalkeepers this season. The trio of senior Anthony Peters (Schenectady, N.Y./Schalmont) and freshmen Dave Rabazzi (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) and Rich Scheer (Livingston, N.J./Livingston) have combined for a 1.96 goals against average and two shutout victories. Scheer leads the group with a 1.53 GAA and the only complete-game shutout of the season versus Providence. Rabazzi and Peters combined on a 3-0 blanking at Adelphi. All three goalkeepers have a victory to their credit.
Syracuse is in the middle of a nine-game stretch in which they face eight conference opponents. The Orangemen return home on Saturday, Oct. 6 to take on Pittsburgh at 1 p.m.
