Men's Lacrosse Announces 2002 Schedule
12/13/2001 2:34:14 PM | Men's Lacrosse
The Syracuse University men's lacrosse team will play nine games on the road during the 2002 regular season. This will be highlighted by five consecutive away contests, beginning on March 2, at Virginia and concluding March 23, at Princeton. Games against Air Force, Denver and Johns Hopkins are scheduled for the two weeks in between. The Orangemen, who have appeared in the last three national championship games, lost to the Tigers in last year's finale, 10-9, in overtime.
On Saturday, Feb. 9, SU will hold a scrimmage in the Carrier Dome against Navy at 5 p.m. A week later, the Orangemen will travel to College Park to scrimmage the University of Maryland under new head coach Dave Cottle, the former head man at Loyola College.
The season officially opens on Saturday, Feb. 23 against Army. The game will be played at the Carrier Dome at 3:30 p.m.
Instead of traveling to Florida during spring break as it has done the past six seasons, Syracuse will take to the mountains of Denver, Colorado for a pair of games against Air Force and Denver. Both contests will be played at the University of Denver. It will be the first-ever meeting in men's lacrosse between SU and Denver and only the second meeting between Air Force and the Orangemen.
SU will return promptly from its trip out west to begin preparing for a March 16th contest at Johns Hopkins. The Blue Jays were the only team to leave the Carrier Dome with a victory during the past two seasons. In 2001, they edged Syracuse, 11-10.
The remaining home games for Syracuse will be against Hobart (March 27), Loyola (April 6), Massachusetts (April 26) and Georgetown (May 4).
The Orangemen will also travel to Brown (March 30), Cornell (April 9), Rutgers (April 13) and Pennsylvania (April 20).
