
Four Syracuse Student-Athletes Named Academic All-District

Fitzpatrick was a 2000 AstroTurf/National Field Hockey Coaches Association third-team All-American after scoring 21 points on six goals and nine assists. She was named first-team All-Mideast Region and first-team All-BIG EAST following her senior season. Fitzpatrick, a three-time BIG EAST Academic All-Star, is majoring in nursing.
O'Grady finished her career as the Orangewomen's all-time leading scorer with 116 points. She led the squad to a 14-7 record in 2000 with nine goals and six assists. She was a second-team All-Northeast Region selection and a four-time All-BIG EAST pick. O'Grady, an inclusive education major, is a three-time BIG EAST Academic All-Star and was a third-team National Soccer Coaches Association of America Academic All-American pick in 1999.
Mastropole is the only three-time first-team selection on the all-district squad. She is a communicative sciences and disorders major and holds a perfect 4.0 grade point average. Mastropole was also a third-team Academic All-American as a junior. She recorded the Orangewomen's best one-meter dive score of the 2000-01 season, and finished 21st in the event at the BIG EAST championship. Mastropole also finished 18th at the conference meet in the three-meter dive.
Chapman was Syracuse's only selection to the men's all-district team. He started all 19 of the Orangemen's games as a defender, including a 1-0 shutout of top-ranked and eventual national champion Connecticut. Chapman helped the Orangemen to five shutouts and a national ranking of 20th during the 2000 season. For his career, he has played in all 39 of the Orangemen's games, starting 36 of them. Chapman, a political science major, was a BIG EAST Academic All-Star following his freshman year.
Student-athletes from 11 sports are eligible for the fall/winter at-large category. They include cross country, fencing, field hockey, gymnastics, ice hockey, rifle, skiing, soccer, swimming, water polo and wrestling. Nominations are voted on by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America.
