Cross Country Teams Earn Victories at Bucknell Invitational

The men’s team went 1-2 on the day, falling to Bucknell 18-45, and Rutgers 19-41, but defeating Siena, 15-45. The women’s team was 1-1, losing to Bucknell, 18-43, and defeating Rutgers, 25-30 .
Freshman Tim Scarpinato (Croghan, N.Y./Beaver River) was the Orangemen’s top finisher in his first race at Syracuse. Scarpinato finished fifth overall with a time of 26:33.01. Classmate Brian McNeil (Franklin, Mass./St. John's) finished 28th with a time of 27:52.77. Bucknell's Greg Costello set the pace for the field with a time of 26:03.13.
The Orangewomen were led by freshman Leah Folmsbee (Ballston Spa, N.Y./Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake). Bucknell's Becki Marshall won the women's field in 18:59.49. Folmsbee finished second with a time of 19:01.43.
Junior Zelma Jackson (Aurora, Colo./A. Phillip Randolph/Barton County CC) finished 10th with a 20:12.08 in her first race for the Orange. Fellow junior Aleccia Boland (London, Ont./Banting) finished 12th with a time of 20:19.94.
Both men's and women's teams will be in action next Saturday, Sept. 15, when they host the Fourth Annual Orange Classic at Drumlins.
