Three Tennis Players Selected To Compete At ITA Tournament

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Junior Daniela Kaluskova (Prague, Czech Republic) and senior doubles pair Masha Kabanova (Moscow, Russia/School #528) and Shervin Saedinia (Woodland Hills, Calif./Calabasas) were selected to compete in the 2002 Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s Omni Hotels Regional Championships. The tournament, which will be played on the campus of Harvard University, begins Friday, Oct. 25 and continues through the weekend.

Kabanova and Saedinia, along with sophomore Trine Lise Juliussen (Rade, Norway/Treider vgs.) will compete in the qualifying singles round for a chance to enter the main bracket. In doubles, Juliussen and classmate Kristine Bech Holte (Oslo, Norway/Fagerborg vgs.) will also play in the qualifying round. Kaluskova and freshman Wei-Ming Leong (Ipoh, Malaysia/SMJK Ave Maria Convent) are second on the waiting list for the qualifying round, and head coach Mac Gifford says they have a good chance of being selected.

“I’m excited that so many players got in this year,” Gifford said. “I think they all deserve it.”

The winners of each of the seven regional competitions will advance to the Omni Hotels National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships, Nov. 7-10, in Dallas.
