Seniors Audrey Latsko (Emmaus, Pa./Emmaus H.S.) and Michelle Marks (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) of the Syracuse University field hockey team were named to the 2002 STX/NFHCA Division I All-Mideast Region First Team. The Orangewomen placed seniors Kristin Aronowicz (Exton, Pa./Downingtown) and Becky Kohler (Palmyra, Pa./Palmyra) on the All-Mideast Region Second Team.
Latsko, the 2002 BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Year, is making her second appearance on the Mideast Region First Team. She also won the honor in 2000. This season, Latsko was a first-team All-BIG EAST selection. She played every minute in goal for SU, recording eight shutouts and allowing just 1.10 goals per game. She finished her career ranked second on SU's career saves list with 492.
Marks, a midfielder, was voted to the All-Mideast Region First Team for the first time in her career. She earned second-team laurels in 2001. This season, Marks was selected to the All-BIG EAST First Team. She finished her senior year tied for fifth on the team in scoring with seven points (two goals, three assists). A four-year starter at Syracuse, Marks tallied 32 points during her career (10 goals, 12 assists).
Aronowicz, a four-year starter at the center midfield position for SU, earned All-Mideast Region honors for the third consecutive season. In 2000 and 2001, she was a first-team selection. This year, Aronowicz was the Orangewomen's leading scorer for the third-straight campaign. She totalled 15 points (seven goals). She finished her career ranked third on the school's all-time goals list (40) and fourth on the career points list (91).
Kohler was named a Mideast All-Region pick for the first time in her career. The fifth-year senior back was a two-time captain for the Orangewomen. She was named to the All-BIG EAST First Team in 2001 and 2002.
The Orangewomen posted a record of 10-11 in 2002. They qualified for their 14th straight BIG EAST Tournament, where they were defeated by Connecticut, 1-0, in overtime of the semifinals. Syracuse is the only program in the league to qualify for all 14 BIG EAST Tournaments.
