
Freeney and James Named NSCA All-Americans

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Senior women's basketball player Jaime James (Plymouth, Mass./Plymouth North) and senior football player Dwight Freeney (Bloomfield, Conn./Bloomfield) were selected as All-American athletes by the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA).
James led the Orangewomen to their first NCAA berth since 1988. She was a third-team All-BIG EAST selection, averaging 14.6 points per game. She finished her career seventh on the SU career scoring list with 1,215 points.
Freeney was a Walter Camp All-American and a finalist for both the Lombardi Trophy, awarded to the nation's lineman of the year, and the Nagurski Trophy, awarded to the most outstanding defensive player. He finished the 2001 season with 17.5 sacks in 13 games, which is an NCAA, SU and BIG EAST single-season record. Freeney finished his career with 34 sacks, third on the BIG EAST career list.
The All-American Strength and Conditioning Athletes are recognized for their athletic accomplishments, academic and personal achievements, community involvement and leadership qualities. This year, 184 athletes were acknowledged for their commitment both in and out of the weight room.
