Wednesday night’s game is the fifth meeting between the two lacrosse programs. Syracuse holds a 3-1 advantage in the series, including last year’s 9-7 win.
SU won its 50th game in the program’s five-year history on Sunday, April 14 when the Orangewomen defeated the New Hampshire, 14-5. Syracuse snapped a two-game losing streak and gave the Wildcats their first loss in six games. Lisa Miller also earned her 50th victory in her tenure as head coach of the Orangewomen. She now has a career record of 50-21 and a winning percentage of .704.
Sophomore Leigh-Ann Zimmer (Farmingdale, NY/Farmingdale) tied a career high with six points in the win against UNH. The attacker scored three goals in the first 12 minutes of the game to help SU to an early 5-0 lead. Zimmer is second on the team with 38 points (25 goals, 13 assists). The sophomore has already tied her rookie assist total with 13.
Senior captain Carrie Soults (Washington, DC/Georgetown Day School) scored three goals in Sunday’s game. She leads the team in goals with 29. Soults moved into sole possession of second place on SU’s career points list with 118. The midfielder moved ahead of graduate assistant Lauren Brady, who recorded 115 points in her career. Katrina Hable ‘01 holds the record with 183. Soults needs only four more goals to tie her scoring total from last year.
Freshman Caitlyn Dragon (Jackson, NJ/Jackson Memorial) started her first collegiate game on Sunday versus New Hampshire and scored her second goal of 2002 off a free position. Classmate Monica Joines (White Hall, MD/North Harford) scored her fifth collegiate goal on Sunday. Joines has tallied at least one point in the past six games. She has made an appearance in all 11 games and has recorded seven points on five goals and two assists.
