No. 4 Syracuse (9-3, 5-2 ACC) heads to Ithaca Tuesday night to take on Cornell (7-3, 2-1 Ivy League) at Schoellkopf Field, looking to extend its winning streak to 10 games.
Opening Draw
The Orange have reeled off nine straight wins, including ranked victories over then-No. 13 Loyola, No. 4 Northwestern, No. 7 Yale, No. 19 Virginia and No. 23 Pittsburgh. Syracuse has climbed to No. 4 in the IWLCA poll and has held opponents to just 5.7 goals per game over the last six contests.
Get the Ball to Guzik
Sophomore Molly Guzik has been the offensive catalyst all season, racking up 31 goals and eight assists for 39 points while scoring in all 12 games. This past week, she totaled eight points with five goals and three assists across two games against UAlbany and then-ranked No. 23 Pittsburgh.
Her career-best six-goal performance at then-No. 4 Northwestern earlier this month earned her ACC Offensive Player of the Week and USA Lacrosse Magazine Division I Player of the Week honors.
Offensive Leaders
Senior Mackenzie Rich returns to her hometown of Ithaca with a career year in tow, totaling 27 points on 11 goals and a team-high 16 assists. Caroline Trinkaus has been steady on the attack as well, contributing 17 goals and seven assists for 24 points on the season. Ashlee Volpe rounds out the group with 15 points on seven goals and eight assists.
The Back Line
Syracuse ranks third in the nation in scoring defense at 7.0 goals per game while playing the toughest strength of schedule in the country. Izzy Lahah and Coco Vandiver lead the team with 34 and 29 caused turnovers, respectively.
Vandiver became the program's all-time leader in caused turnovers against Pittsburgh, nabbing her 102nd of her career. Daniella Guyette anchors the unit in net, ranking third nationally in goals against average at 6.8 with a .490 save percentage.
Scouting Cornell
Cornell enters on a four-game winning streak and is 4-1 at Schoellkopf Field. The Big Red have been equally stingy defensively, surrendering just 7.2 goals per game — fourth in the nation — and have held opponents to six goals or fewer in four straight games. Ellie Bergin leads Cornell with 24 goals while Ella Wilmot paces the team with 26 points, including a squad-high 16 assists. Mackenzie Clark has started all 10 games in goal with a .500 save percentage.
Series History
Tuesday marks the 28th all-time meeting between the programs. Syracuse has won 17 straight against Cornell dating back to 2006 and holds a 9-5 edge in games played in Ithaca.
