Orange Crew Loses At Dartmouth

HANOVER, N.H. - The Syracuse University men's crew team lost against Dartmouth on Saturday, May 11. The Big Green?s varsity eight retained the Packard Trophy for the 12th consecutive year.
In the varsity eight race Dartmouth crossed the finish line in 5:54.2, 11.9 seconds ahead of Syracuse. Dartmouth won the junior varsity eight race by 22.2 seconds. In the freshman eight race the Big Green finished in 6:12.8, 29.6 seconds ahead of the Orangemen.
Dr. Anthony Ladd commissioned the Packard Trophy in 1959 to honor his father-in-law, Edward N. Packard (SU class of 1906). The sterling silver cup is awarded annually to the winner of the Syracuse-Dartmouth race. Packard was the stroke of the 1904 varsity eight, the first SU crew to capture an IRA championship.
The Orangemen's next regatta is the Eastern Sprints on Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Mass. on Sunday, May 19.
