Orangwomen Seventh at ECAC, Orangemen 14th at IC4A Championship

PRINCETON, N.J.- The Syracuse University women's track & field team finished seventh out of 50 teams at the 19th ECAC Track & Field Championship at Princeton University's Weaver Stadium this weekend.The SU men finished 14th out of 57 teams at the 126th IC4A Outdoor Track & Field Championship at Princeton University's Weaver Stadium this weekend.
Freshman Nicole Kendrick (Lancaster, Ohio/Lancaster HS) won the discus and classmate Johvonne Hernandez (Port Isabel, Texas/Port Isabel HS) placed in all three throwing events. Kendrick's throw of 169-2 was exactly six feet farther than the runner-up, Elise Mitchell of Virginia. It was the seventh first-place finish for Kendrick this season. She also placed third in the shot put with a throw of 45-10 1/2.
Hernandez placed fourth in the shot put (45-4 1/2), sixth in the hammer throw (168-4) and eighth in the discus (147-2).
Freshman Jenna Grimaldi (San Mateo, Calif./St. Ignatius HS) finished third in the high jump, clearing 5-8 3/4.
The Orangewomen finished with 31 points. Seton Hall won the team championship, scoring 82 points.
Kendrick, Hernandez and Grimaldi have all posted NCAA Championship provisional marks and will find out if they will be competing at the NCAA Championship later this week.
The Orangemen scored 19 points, more than doubling their total from the 2001 championship where they scored 8.5 points and placed 29th. Georgetown won the event with 87 points.
Junior Joel Carusone (Slingerlands, N.Y./Guilderland HS) pole-vaulted a season-best 15-11, finishing second behind Navy?s Thomas Delaney, who also cleared 15-11.
The 400-meter relay team of juniors Richard Polidore (Chino, Calif./Chino HS), Latroy Oliver (Hartford, Conn./Weaver HS), Sean Burnett (Uniondale, N.Y./ Uniondale HS) and freshman Chris Telesford (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Ford HS) finished fourth, posting a season-best time of 40.73.
Junior Tim Adrian (Moorpark, Calif./Moorpark HS) placed seventh in the shot put with a throw of 54-3 1/4. Adrian finished fifth in the discus with a distance of 163-10.
This was the final team meet of the year for Syracuse.
