SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Eleven members of the Syracuse men's soccer team have been named to the Spring 2002 SU Athletic Director's Honor Roll and the 2001-02 BIG EAST Academic All-Star Team. Nine of the 11 players received both honors.
To be considered for the BIG EAST honor, players must achieve a cumulative grade point average of 3.0-or-higher for the academic year. The Syracuse Athletic Director's Honor Roll reflects student-athletes who had a 3.0-or-higher GPA for the semester.
Senior Eric Chapman (Wallingford, Pa./Strath Haven) earned his third BIG EAST Academic All-Star selection. Chapman also was named to the AD Honor Roll for the sixth time in as many semesters. Jeff Lewis (Ballston Lake, N.Y./Shenendehowa), who graduated last spring, also received both honors. It was his second BIG EAST award and the sixth time he was a part of the Athletic Director's Honor Roll. Senior Guido Cristofori (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) is the other SU player to be named to the BIG EAST Academic All-Star Team more than once. Cristofori is a two-time conference award winner and a four-time member of the AD Honor Roll.
Other players to receive both honors include senior Kevin Boyle (Manlius, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy), sophomore Brian Dell (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin), senior Ryan Hall (Great Falls, Va./Herndon), junior Andrew Iadeluca (Fairfax, Va./Paul VI), Darren Ingles (Overisje, Belgium) and junior Ari Schneider (East Brunswick, N.J./East Brunswick).
In addition, sophomore Ryan Hickey (Spencerport, N.Y./Spencerport) was a member of the Athletic Director's Honor Roll, while sophomore Derek McGeehan (Grantville, Pa./Lower Dauphin) was a BIG EAST Academic All-Star.
Syracuse opens its 2002 campaign on August 30 at Virginia Commonwealth.
