
Orangewomen Win Syracuse Invitational Tournament

SYRACUSE, NY - The Syracuse women’s volleyball team won the Syracuse Invitational Tournament with a 3-0 win against Buffalo on Saturday evening in Manley Field House. The Orangewomen defeated Colgate, 3-0, in the afternoon match.
With three wins in the tournament, Syracuse (9-1) is off to their best start since the 1991 season. Junior libero Christen Casey (Long Beach, IN/Marquette) received tournament MVP honors and senior co-captain Abby Van Mater (West Chester, PA/Unionville) and sophomore Morgan Jones (Malad, ID/Malad) joined her on the all-tournament team.
Casey recorded 10 digs in the win against Buffalo (4-6) and posted 35 during tournament play. Van Mater had six kills on 11 attacks with one error for a .455 hiting percentage against the Bulls, while Jones posted her second match of the tournament in double digits with 14 kills.
Lindsay Matikosh and Kathryn Henry led Buffalo with nine and seven kills, respectively. Both players were named to the all-tournament team.
Brown defeated Colgate, 3-0, in the 5 p.m. match. Jessie Cooper led the Bears with 14 kills and was voted to the all-tournament team.
Syracuse travels to Michigan next weekend to compete in the Radisson Invitational at Western Michigan University.
