
Women's Soccer Loses Against Central Florida, 3-1

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - The Syracuse women's soccer team gave up three second half goals in a 3-1 loss to Central Florida on the final day of the University of Florida’s Gator Invitational, held at Percy Beard Stadium, on Sunday afternoon.
SU played most of the second half with only 10 players. SU freshman Brooke DeRosa (Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Connetquout HS) was issued a red card and was sent off the field for the remainder of the game in the 52nd minute. Central Florida scored its first goal at 51:22 when Sara McDonald buried the ensuing penalty kick to tie the game at 1-1. The Orangewomen were forced to play in a man-down situation for the rest of the contest.
The Golden Knights took full advantage of the situation, scoring two more goals. Amanda King scored what proved to be the game-winner at 64:10 off a pass from Jennifer Montgomery. Montgomery added an insurance goal at 84:25 for the final 3-1 score.
Syracuse took a 1-0 lead when sophomore Natalie Galas (Sterling Heights, Mich./Bishop Foley HS) headed in a cross from Stephanie Sybert (Baltimore, Md./Maryvale Prep) at 21:30.
Freshman goalkeeper Emily Kowalczyk (Dayton, Ohio/Centerville HS) tied a career high with six saves for Syracuse.
Syracuse (2-3-1) was outshot 12-1 in the second half by the Golden Knights (5-1-0). UCF held a 17-4 shot advantage in the game.
The Orangewomen return to the Syracuse Soccer Stadium on Friday, Sept. 20, to open their BIG EAST schedule against No. 12 Connecticut at 7 p.m.
