Tennis Shows Promise at Cornell Tournament

Seniors Masha Kabanova (Moscow, Russia/School #528) and Shervin Saedinia (Woodland Hills, Calif./Calabasas) continued their success of last season, each going 3-1 on the weekend including two Flight A doubles wins. Both notched their 100th career win last season, and Saedinia leaped from 23rd to 21st place on the Century Club list with her three victories, while Kabanova moved from a tie for 19th to a tie for 17th place.
Newcomers Wei-Ming Leong (Ipoh, Malaysia/SMJK Ave Maria Convent) and Trine Lise Juliussen (Rade, Norway/Treider vgs.) earned their first victories as Orangewomen. Leong won both her Flight B doubles matches paired with junior Daniela Kaluskova (Prague, Czech Republic/Gym Budejovicka), 8-2 on Saturday and 8-6 Sunday. Juliussen reunited with long-time doubles partner Kristine Bech Holte (Oslo, Norway/Fagerborg vgs.) to sweep their Flight A doubles matches.
Kaluskova and Holte were the only Orangewomen to win all four of their matches on the weekend. Holte completed her freshman season with the best winning percentage on the team.
The Orangewomen have two weeks off to prepare for the Maryland Invitational, Fri.-Sun., Sept. 27-29. Last year, Kaluskova advanced to the semifinals of Flight A singles, and Kabanova and Saedinia were knocked out of the Flight A doubles bracket in the semifinals.
