
Women's Soccer Loses To Undefeated St. John's, 2-0

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - St. John's scored two goals in a seven-minute span in the second half to defeat the Syracuse University women's soccer team, 2-0, in front of 570 at the Syracuse Soccer Stadium on Sunday afternoon. The Orangewomen are now 2-5-1 (0-2-0 BIG EAST), while the Red Storm improved to 5-0-3 (2-0-0 BIG EAST).
The Red Storm's first goal started with a drive to the endline by midfielder Joanna Dawson. Dawson centered the ball through traffic to Courtney Rett, who tapped in her second goal of the season for a 1-0 lead at 61:38.
St. John's added an insurance goal less than seven minutes later when Dominica Reina put a cross form Lauren McGrory over SU freshman goalkeeper Emily Kowalczyk (Dayton, Ohio/Centerville HS) at 68:22.
Despite being outshot 11-9 in the game, Syracuse was not without its scoring opportunities. SJU keeper Tracy Rollings deflected a shot from sophomore forward Natalie Galas (Sterling Heights, Mich./Bishop Foley HS) that hit off the crossbar midway through the first half. SU had three corner kicks and three shots in the final two minutes of the game but could not convert.
Kowalczyk finished with four saves. Rollings made three saves and earned her first career shutout in her second collegiate start.
The Orangewomen will complete their four game homestand with games against Massachusetts on Friday, Sept. 27, at 7 p.m., and Miami on Sunday, Sept. 29, at 1 p.m.
