
Orangwomen Beat Madison In Five Games

HARRISONBURG, VA - The Orangewomen defeated James Madison, 3-2, in their second match of the JMU/Days Inn Classic on Friday evening in Godwin Hall. Syracuse lost to Maryland, 3-0, earlier in the day.
Syracuse extends its record to 4-1 after taking the fifth and deciding game, 15-8. James Madison (2-4) won the first two games, 30-27 and 30-21, before SU took the next two, 30-22 and 32-30, and went on to win the final game.
Freshmen Jessica Logan (Bloomington, IL/Bloomington) and Kristen Conway (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) led the offense with 14 kills each. Senior co-captainAbby Van Mater (West Chester, PA/Unionville) joined Logan and Conway in double figures with 11 kills. Van Mater also helped out on defense, posting a team-high six blocks. Co-captain Christen Casey (Long Beach, IN/Marquette) recorded a match-high 16 digs.
Syracuse held on to win despite being outhit by the Kings, .165 to .096. The Orangewomen, however, committed only two service errors compared to JMU’s 15.
