
Orangemen Earn NSCAA Academic Award

The Syracuse men's soccer team was one of 67 programs in the nation to receive an National Soccer Coaches Association of America Team Academic Award. The Orangemen had a team grade point average of better than 3.0 for the 2001-02 academic year.
It is the second straight year that the Orangemen have received the award from the NSCAA.
The award is given to soccer teams that compiled a minimum of a 3.0 grade point average for the 2001-02 academic year and whose coaches are current NSCAA members. The teams considered for the award represent all levels of play, from NCAA Division I to NAIA and junior college.
SU had three players earn academic all-district honors this season. Seniors Eric Chapman and Guido Cristofori were both first-team honorees, while sophomore Ryan Hickey was a second-team pick. Chapman was also selected as a member of the Verizon Academic All-America Third Team.
The awards will be presented at the College Coaches Luncheon at the 2003 NSCAA Convention, to be held on Thursday, Jan. 16, in Kansas City, Mo.
