
Orangemen Soccer Hands Out Awards

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Syracuse men's soccer presented its 2002 awards at the team's annual banquet. Sophomore forward Jarett Park was named the team's Most Valuable Offensive Player, while redshirt junior Chris Aloisi was named Most Valuable Defensive Player.
Syracuse also presented the Frank J. Schantz Award to two individuals - seniors Guido Cristofori and Eric Chapman. The Schantz Award is given to those individuals who have demonstrated their commitment to the SU program through their on-field performance, character and citizenship.
Park led the Orangemen in scoring with eight goals and five assists for 21 points. He was tied for the team lead with three game-winning goals. Park was a second-team all-conference and second-team all-region selection in 2002.
Aloisi, the team's captain, started all 18 games in the Syracuse defense. He scored two points on two assists and helped the Orangemen to three shutouts in 2002. Aloisi was a third-team All-BIG EAST and first-team All-New York Region pick last season.
Cristofori, a third-team All-BIG EAST selection, finished his career with his best season at Syracuse. He was second on the team with 15 points. Cristofori scored four goals and paced the Orangemen with seven assists. He scored or assisted on six of SU's eight game-winning goals. He was also a All-New York Region First Team player in 2002.
Chapman helped the Orangemen to 14 shutouts in his four years and a top-25 ranking in each of the last three seasons. He recorded his first career point in 2002 with an assist versus Loyola before suffering a season-ending head injury after seven games. He is a two-time third-team Verizon Academic All-American, the second Orangemen soccer player to earn Academic All-America distinction. He also won the 2002 Soladay Award, the highest honor a Syracuse student-athlete can receive.
The Orangemen finished the 2002 campaign with an 8-8-2 overall record.
