Orangemen Garner Pre-Season Attention with College Football Season Just Around the Corner

Senior defensive tackle Louis Gachelin is a pre-season honorable mention All-American and All-BIG EAST selection by a number of publications and is a candidate for the Outland Trophy and the Lombardi Award. In addition, Gachelin is listed as a candidate for the Bednarik and Nagurski Awards, which are given to the nation’s best defensive player.
Senior center Nick Romeo, who is a Rimington Award candidate, is rated the seventh-best center by The Sporting News. He is listed as a pre-season honorable mention All-America candidate and a pre-season All-BIG EAST selection.
Senior linebacker Jameel Dumas, junior tailback Walter Reyes and senior defensive end Josh Thomas are pre-season honorable mention All-America candidates by Street & Smith’s College Football National Preview. In addition, senior nose tackle Christian Ferrara, sophomore cornerback Steve Gregory, senior wide receiver Johnnie Morant and senior linebacker Rich Scanlon are also among those listed for pre-season All-BIG EAST honors.
Syracuse was picked to finish sixth in the BIG EAST pre-season media poll, which was released at the conference’s annual media day held at Giants Stadium on Wednesday, July 23. Miami was selected to repeat as the league champion.
Syracuse begins the season on Saturday, September 6 at North Carolina. Game time is 1:30 p.m. The Orangemen will kickoff a seven-game home schedule on September 13 when they host Louisville. SU will then host Central Florida on September 20 at Noon in a game that will be televised by ESPN Regional, followed by a game against Toledo at 6:30 p.m. on September 27.
