PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Syracuse junior forward Jarett Park has been named to the 2003 Preseason All-BIG EAST Men's Soccer Team by the league's coaches. Park was a second-team all-league selection following his sophomore season.
Park led the Orangemen last season with eight goals and 21 points. He ranked second on the squad with five assists and tied for the team lead with three game-winning goals. In addition to his All-BIG EAST honor, he was also named to the All-New York Region Second Team in 2002.
In only two seasons, Park has already etched his name into the SU record book. The 2001 Soccer America Magazine Freshman of the Year, Park currently ranks tied for fourth on the Orangemen's career assist ledger with 19. He is third on the all-time points per game list with a 1.41 scoring average and tops the Syracuse all-time assists per game list with a 0.59 average.
Park also competes for the Syracuse lacrosse team. He has led the team in groundballs in each of his first two seasons, helping the Orangemen to the 2002 national championship and the program's 21st consecutive NCAA semifinal berth in 2003.
The BIG EAST also released its preseason poll on Thursday. The Orangemen, who finished 8-8-2 overall and 3-6-2 in the conference last season, were picked to finish eighth. St. John's was the coaches selection to win the regular-season championship, followed by Notre Dame, Connecticut and Boston College. The top eight teams in the league advance to the BIG EAST Soccer Championship.
