
Thomas Records Three Points In 3-0 Win Versus Cornell

ITHACA, N.Y. – Junior Shana Thomas scored a career-high three points (1 goal, 1 assist) as the Syracuse women’s soccer team defeated Cornell 3-0 at Berman Field Sunday. It’s the second time in the last three seasons SU has opened the year with three straight victories. The Orangewomen (3-0-0, 0-0-0 BIG EAST) won their first three contests in 2001.
Sophomore Kristina Cristofori netted SU’s first goal when she scored on a feed from Erica Mastrogiacomo on a corner kick at the 10:31 mark of the first half. It was Mastrogiacomo’s second assist on the season.
Thomas beat several defenders and fired a shot past Cornell goalkeeper Katie Thomas at 60:02 and junior Helen Fox scored the first goal of her career at 88:32 to seal the win.
Thomas and Kristofori are tied for the team lead with three goals apiece, and entered the game tied for seventh in the BIG EAST in goals scored. Junior Shannon Myers made five saves to earn her second-consecutive shutout. Myers, who entered the match tied for third in the conference with a .50 goals against average now boasts a .33 mark after the Cornell victory.
Emily Knight led the Big Red (0-1-1, 0-0-0 Ivy League) with seven shots.
Syracuse, which ranks seventh in the Northeast in the latest Soccerbuzz poll will play at Villanova on Thursday, Sept. 11 at 4 p.m.
