
Swimming & Diving Wins Against West Virginia

On Senior Day, Elyse McDonough won three events to help the Orangewomen remain perfect in the all-time series against West Virginia (7-0) with a 132-94 victory. The Orangemen defeated the Mountaineers, 133-110, to improve their dual-meet record this season to 3-1.
McDonough captured first place in the 200 individual medley (2:08.62), the 200 butterfly (2:05.46) and as part of the 400 medley relay (3:56.52). Sophomore Lisa Wittich also won three events for the women. She took the 500 freestyle (5:04.50), the 1,000 freestyle (10:21.46) and the 400 freestyle relay (3:38.22). Senior Kalei Mahi won the 200 breaststroke (2:23.11) and the 400 medley relay (3:56.52).
On the men's side, sophomores Bobby Schelling and Pat Mugavin stood out against West Virginia. Schelling was the lead-off swimmer in SU's first-place 400 medley relay team (3:27.10). He was first in the 200 backstroke (1:52.54) and second in the 200 freestyle (1:43.26). Mugavin captured first place in two distance freestyle events, the 500 freestyle (4:40.74) and the 1,000 freestyle (9:42.59).
Sophomore diver Dewey Schultz was the top man on the one and three-meter boards. He recorded a score of 264.08 on the three-meter which was good for first place. His score on the one-meter was 242.62. Senior Rick Rodriguez was second on both boards with scores of 255.30 (3M) and 226.80 (1M).
Senior Spencer Raymond capped off his four-year career at Ted Webster Pool by helping the 400 medley relay team to a first-place finish and he was third in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 21.60.
SU will now take to the road for three-straight dual meets. On Jan. 24, the Orange will compete at Connecticut beginning at 11 a.m.
