
Orangewomen Ink Five for 2005

Shannon Brushe, Christina Gibson, Allison Furstenburg, Stephanie Bissett and Kristin Brady have all agreed to join the women’s lacrosse program next year.
Brushe, a native of Castonsville, Md., was all-county and all-divison midfielder for Castonsville High School in 2003. She was also an Academic All-America selection. As a junior, Brushe recorded 22 points on 17 goals and five assists. She led Castonsville to the county lacrosse championship in 2002 and 2003 and the regional lacrosse title in 2002. Brushe was also an honorable mention all-state selection in soccer in 2003.
Gibson also hails from Maryland. As midfielder at North Harford High School, Gibson was named first-team all-county in 2003 and second-team all-county in 2002. She has also competed for the North East Maryland Select Team from 2001-03. Gibson is also a member of North Harford’s basketball and field hockey squads. She earned second-team all-county accolades for field hockey in 2002 and was an honorable mention all-county pick in basketball in 2003.
Furstenburg, a midfielder from Somerville, N.J., has tallied 137 goals through her first three years at Hunterdon Central Regional High School and owns all of the school’s single-season and single-game scoring records. As a junior, Furstenburg was a third-team all-state selection by the Newark Star-Ledger. She was also a two-time first-team All-Skyland Conference and All-Central New Jersey performer.
Bissett, a defender, is from Woodstock, Md., and helped the Mt. Hebron Vikings to back-to-back national championships in 2002 and 2003. She was named to national all-tournament team and concluded her junior year with three goals and one assist. She was MVP of Mt. Hebron’s girl’s soccer team as a freshman and helped the Vikings’ basketball team to the county championship as a sophomore.
Brady, a three-time team captain at nearby Binghamton High School, was a defender on the 2003 Empire State Games Silver Medal team. She was a first-team Section IV pick in 2002 and 2003. She has also won the New York State Scholar Athlete Award from 2001-03. Brady was Binghamton’s MVP in 2003 and the squad’s Offensive Player of the Year for the past two seasons. She has notched 85 goals and 18 assists thus far in her scholastic career.
The 2004 Orangewomen are ranked 10th in the Lacrosse Magazine preseason poll and will begin their season at No. 2 Virginia on Feb. 28. Syracuse will host Pennsylvania in a scrimmage on Feb. 14.
