SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse women’s soccer team lost Friday, 1-0, to the visiting Seton Hall Pirates on a rain-soaked Senior Night at SU Soccer Stadium. The Orange is 7-6-2 for the season, 1-5-1 in the BIG EAST. Seton Hall improves to 7-6-2 overall, 2-5-0 in the league.
Seton Hall’s Beth Troutman netted the game’s only goal in the 66th minute on a pass from Carley Piagentini.
The score was the only statistic not in favor of Syracuse. The Orange recorded 18 shots, 13 coming in the second half. While the Pirates tallied nine shots, four in the second half. The Orange held an 8-1 advantage in corner kicks and had many scoring opportunities throughout the second half. Senior Kelly Bailie led the Orange with six shots, two which were fired into the crossbar and a third that flew just above.
“That was not a fitting way for the seniors to go out,” head coach Pat Farmer said. “I thought we played well enough to win. We made one major mistake in back and it cost us that goal. We had a lot of scoring chances, but couldn’t get one.”
Senior goalie Shannon Myers recorded five saves on the night, increasing her career total to 224 stops. Seton Hall’s Amanda Becker also recorded five saves.
The Orange returns to action Sunday, Oct. 17 at Georgetown for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
