Orange Tennis Advances to the Semifinals in Flight C Singles and Doubles

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA. – The Syracuse tennis team was able to begin competition at the Hampton Road Collegiate Tennis Invitational of Newport News on Saturday, Oct. 16. Sophomore Carolina Huignard and the doubles team of junior Wei-Ming Leong and sophomore Kendyl Severino have advanced to the semifinals of their flights.

Huignard advances to the semifinals of the flight C singles by defeating Nicole Henderson of Howard, 6-0, 6-2, in the first round, Barbara Kerner of Old Dominion, 6-4, 6-4, in the round of 16, and Barbara Schumsky of Connecticut, 7-5, 3-6, 1-0, in the quarterfinals.

Leong and Severino advanced to the semifinals of the flight C doubles after defeating Natalie Hudson and Valerie McDonald of Hofstra, 8-0, in the round of 16, and then winning an 8-3 match against Liz Perlow and Marissa Singer of Delaware in the quarterfinals.

The tournament concludes on Sunday, Oct. 17 with singles action beginning at 8:00 a.m.
