
Late Goal Hands SU a 1-0 Loss at Providence

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Orange women’s soccer team lost a critical BIG EAST game at Providence, 1-0, on Friday afternoon at Glay Field in Providence, R.I. The Orange needs to beat No. 23 Boston College on Sunday afternoon in Chesnut Hill, Mass. to have a shot at BIG EAST postseason play.
Providence’s Shannon McMorrow netted the game-winning goal for the Friars with 4:07 remaining in the game. BriAnne Bruni was credited with an assist on the goal.
The Orange is 8-7-2 overall, 2-6-1 in the BIG EAST. The Friars improve to 5-11, 2-7 in the league.
SU recorded six shots for the day, while Providence registered 10 shots. Senior goalkeeper Shannon Myers recorded three saves in the loss and Ashley Fedyshyn also had three saves for the Friars.
The Orange travels to Boston College for a 1 p.m. kickoff with the 23rd-ranked Eagles. The Orange needs an upset victory over BC and some losses from Pitt, Georgetown and/or St. John’s to advance to the conference tournament.
