SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Orange women’s soccer team lost 2-0 to Connecticut Friday night at the SU Soccer Stadium. The Orange is 6-4-2 on the season, 1-3-1 in the BIG EAST. The Huskies improve to 7-5-0, 5-2-0 in the conference. Syracuse senior goalkeeper Shannon Myers recorded nine saves on the night and is now first all-time on SU’s career saves list with 212.
The Orange held the Huskies scoreless for nearly 80 minutes with great defense, including Myers’ nine saves. UConn’s Kathleen Frank found some room off a deflection and shot the ball off the right post and in with 10:09 remaining in the game. Fifty-nine seconds later Karyn Riviere netted the Huskies’ second goal off a pass from Kristen Graczyk.
The Orange had some great scoring chances early in the second quarter, but could not convert. Senior Nina Scalzo got free behind the UConn defense and her shot went just wide of the far post. Senior Stephanie Sybert fired a shot from 20-yards out, which sailed into the crossbar.
The Orange held a 4-3 advantage in corner kicks, but were out-shot 18-6. Connecticut goalie Megan Jessee recorded three save for the night.
The Orange travels to Rutgers on Sunday, Oct. 10 for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
