Women's Cross Country Wins Orange Classic, Men Finish Second

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse women’s cross country team took first place at the Orange Classic Saturday morning. The women had four runners in the top ten and freshman Liz Cufari finished in first place. The men finished second, just two points behind Massachusetts. The men had three runners in the top five, but all of the Minutemen’s top-five finished in the top ten.
Cufari finished in18:58 nearly 30 seconds before the second-place runner. Senior Leah Folmsbee finished third for the Orange with a time of 20:02. Junior Gabrielle Charbonneau finished sixth with a time of 20:19. Freshman Kathleen Sanborn and sophomore Kelly Pimm rounded out the Orange’s top five finishing ninth and 11th, respectively. Freshman Meghan Rowcliffe and sophomores Katie Simon and Candace Ince had solid contributions finishing 14th,15th and 16th, respectively.
The men captured first, second and fourth place and sophomore David Wishart finished in 26:36 and took top honors for the second consecutive season. Junior Chris Muldoon and sophomore Matt Lawson finished second and fourth with times of 26:50 and 27:16. Rounding out the Orange’s top-five were senior Collin Capano in 11th and freshman Ben Torvik in 15th.
The Orange travels to the Great American Cross Country Festival in Cary, N.C. on Friday, Oct. 1.
