Peetoom Selected for Canadian U-20 Training Camp

OTTAWA, Ontario – Syracuse freshman defender Brad Peetoom (Abbotsford, B.C.) is one of 22 players selected to participate in a Canadian Men’s Youth (U-20) Team training camp in Carson, Calif. The camp, which runs until Dec. 23, will feature two friendlies against the United States and an exhibitioin game versus Necaxa (Mexico).
Canada is trying to qualify for their third consecutive FIFA World Youth Championship. The team will compete in Group B of CONCACAF Under-20 Final Round Qualifying from January 26-30, 2005 in San Pedro Sula, Honduras. Other members of Group B are Honduras, Jamaica, and Mexico. The top two teams in each group will qualify for the 2005 FIFA World Youth (U-20) Championships in the Netherlands.

Goalkeeper Alim Karim, defender Rich Asante and midfielder Frank Bruno all competed for the Canadian U-20 team in 2003 FIFA World Youth Championship held in the United Arab Emirates after playing for the Orange in 2003. The trio helped the Canadians to their first-ever quarterfinal appearance.
Peetoom finished the season as SU’s leading scorer with four goals despite playing defense. He was one of three players on the team, all freshmen, to start all 17 games for the Orange.
