
McBride Ties SU Career Scoring Record in 79-71 Loss at Seton Hall

Senior guard Julie McBride scored a career-high 36 points, increasing her career total to 1,526 to tie Felisha Legette for the school scoring record in the Orangewomen's 79-71 loss at Seton Hall on Saturday, February 14. McBride, who scored 19 of SU's 27 first half points, tied the all-time scoring record on a layup with 20 seconds left in the game. It marks the fifth game that McBride has scored 25-or-more points in a game, which ties an SU record. The loss for Syracuse (6-16 overall, 3-9 BIG EAST) is the eighth in a row, while Seton Hall improved its record to 14-8 overall and 6-5 in the league.
Sophomore Jill Norton scored a career-high nine points for the Orangewomen and freshman Tracy Harbut made the first start of her SU career.
In the first half, junior Sarah Wegrzynowicz hit a three-point field goal to give the Orangewomen a four-point lead, 21-17, with 10:35 left. Then, with the score tied at 25 with 5 minutes remaining in the half, Seton Hall outscored SU 8-2, to take a 33-27 advantage at the break.
In the first five minutes of the second half, Seton Hall extended its lead to 13, 41-28. SU scored the next six points, to cut the lead to seven, 41-34, with 13:21 left in the game. The Pirates led by as many as 16 in the second half before SU cut the margin to eight, 72-64, with 1:17 left to play. Each team scored seven points to close the game.
McBride added 16 points to her scoring total and freshman Lauren Kohn scored 10 points for the Orangewomen in the final 20 minutes. In addition to her 36 points, McBride had six assists and five rebounds. Junior Rochelle Coleman scored 11 points and grabbed six rebounds before fouling out of the game. Wegrzynowicz finished the game with five points, four rebounds and one assist.
Syracuse will host the University of Miami on Wednesday, February 18 at 7:00 p.m. at Manley Field House.
