
Syracuse Loses to Georgetown, 82-59

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Senior Julie McBride set the Syracuse career record for three-pointers made, but the Orangewomen basketball team lost to BIG EAST rival Georgetown, 82-59, on Wednesday, February 25. SU is now 6-18 overall and 3-11 in the league, and the Hoyas are 12-13 overall and 6-8 in the BIG EAST.
McBride's only three-point field goal of the game broke the record, which was previously held by Jaime James, and gave her 227 treys in her career. McBride finished the game with six points and five assists. Freshman Lauren Kohn led the Orange with 14 poitns, including four three-pointers. Kohn has 51 trifectas this season, which ranks eighth on the SU single-season list. Kohn also moved into 13th place on Syracuse freshman scoring list, passing Raquel Nurse. Junior Rochelle Coleman posted 10 points, while sophomore Jill Norton finished with four points and a career-high seven rebounds. Freshman Tracy Harbut recorded nine points, two assists and tied her personal best with seven rebounds.
Rebekkah Brunson finished the game with 35 points and 22 rebounds for the Hoyas, including 23 points and 12 boards in the first half. Mary Lisicky finished with 23 points and five assists. Georgetown outrebounded Syracuse, 59-34, including a 24-8 advantage on the offensive glass. The Hoyas outscored SU, 32-8, in the paint.
At the 13:16 mark of the first half, Norton made a jumper to knot the score at six. Over the next 11 minutes, Georgetown went on a 31-12 run to take a 19-point lead, 37-18. Brunson scored 17 of Georgetown's points during that stretch. SU went on a 10-4 spurt to close the half and make the score 41-28.
The Hoyas outscored SU 13-3 during the first four minutes of the second half, including three three-pointers by Lisicky, to go up 54-31. Georgetown's lead was never less than 20 points after that point. The Hoyas led by 29 twice, at 78-49 with 3:55 on the clock, and at 80-51.
Syracuse will try to snap its 10-game losing streak when it hosts Boston College in its final home game of the season on Saturday, February 28, at noon at Manley Field House.
