SU Earns Four Wins and Two Records are Broken at Syracuse Invitational

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Orangemen track and field team boasted victories in three events at the Syracuse Invitational on Saturday, Feb. 7, at Manley Field House. In addition, two women’s field records for the meet and venue were broken on the first day of competition.
Sophomore Chris Muldoon won the 3,000-meter run with a BIG EAST- and IC4A-qualifying time of 8:27.84. Junior Valerij Petrulevich qualified for the league and regional meets with his first-place time of 2:29.03 in the 1,000-meter run. In the shot put, graduate student Steve Bedard was victorious and qualified for the BIG EAST and IC4A championships with a throw of 62-7.25. Junior Brian McNeil qualified for the BIG EAST Championship in the mile run with a time of 4:18.63 and a second-place finish.
Junior All-American Jenna Grimaldi kept her winning streak alive with a victory in the high jump (5-5). Grimaldi has won the event at all five meets this season.
Laura Olson of Buffalo set a Syracuse Invitational and Manley Field House record with an NCAA Provisional-qualifying mark of 13-0.25 in the pole vault. Faith Thompson won the weight throw and set meet and venue records with a throw of 63-0.75.
Syracuse will participate in its final meet before the BIG EAST Tournament on Saturday, Feb. 14, at the Bison Winter Classic, hosted by Bucknell University, in Lewisburg, Pa.
