Syracuse Women Place Second at ECAC Championship

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The top three in the women's triple jump was Orange on the final day of the ECAC Championship as three individual victories led Syracuse to a second-place finish out of 47 teams.
Graduate student Aprelle Watkins won the triple jump with a season-best leap of 12.84 meters. Junior Tatiana Warren came in second and qualified for the NCAA Regional with a jump of 12.47 meters. Freshman Sheron Mark placed third with a leap of 12.26 meters, which meets the NCAA Regional qualifying standard. All three received All-East recognition.
Junior Johvonne Hernandez won her second event of the meet with a first-place finish in the shot put. She recorded a season-best throw of 16.55 meters, which exceeds the NCAA Regional-qualifying standard by more than two meters. On the second day of the meet, Hernandez won the discus.
Junior Jenna Grimaldi earned All-East honors with a second-place finish in the high jump. Grimaldi's season-best leap of 1.78 meters exceeds the NCAA qualifying standard.
SU's qualifiers will compete at the NCAA Regional, May 28-29, in Gainesville, Fla.
