Swimming & Diving Places 24 on Latest Athletic Director's Honor Roll

Twenty-four members of the Syracuse University swimming and diving team were named to the Spring 2004 Athletic Director's Honor Roll. The SU Athletic Director’s Honor Roll recognizes those student-athletes who have earned a semester grade point average of 3.0 or higher while participating in intercollegiate athletics.
Six seniors earned a place on the honor roll. Peter Evans (Wyndmoor, Pa.), Kalei Mahi (Salinas, Calif.), Elyse McDonough (Delmar, N.Y.), Steve Polucha (Cumberland, R.I.), Spencer Raymond (Idstein, Germany) and Ricky Rodriguez (Long Beach, N.Y.) were each recognized.
McDonough and Raymond were also named to the CoSIDA All-Academic District I At-Large Team on May 27. Student-athletes must have a minimum GPA of 3.2 to qualify for the CoSIDA All-Academic Team and must make significant contributions to his or her team.
The juniors that made the list were Lisa Fong (Olympia, Wash.), Elisa James (Lakewood, Wash.), Gustavo Kertzscher (Skurup, Sweden) and Josh Scott (Clayton, Calif.).
Devon Ackroyd (Toronto, Ontario), Melissa Clune (Bainbridge Island, Wash.), Erin Cofiell (Glastonbury, Conn.), Geoffrey Harrison (Solon, Ohio), Rob Persico (Fulton, Md.), Dewey Schultz (Sudbury, Mass.), Ana Stachowiak (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.), Kristi Westrich (Lincolnshire, Ill.), Lisa Wittich (St. Louis, Mo.) and Claire Wong (Vancouver, British Columbia) were the sophomores who were recognized.
Freshmen making their second consecutive appearance on the honor roll were Lukasz Boral (Poznan, Poland), Wesley Matson (Wichita, Kan.), Clay Rehrig (The Woodlands, Texas) and Jeremy Thornton (Manchester, Conn.).
The Orange had two swimmers crowned BIG EAST champions this past season. Senior Elyse McDonough capped her stellar Syracuse University swimming career with a BIG EAST Conference championship in the women's 200 butterfly, while freshman Lukasz Boral set a BIG EAST record on his way to the men's 200 breaststroke title on the final night of the 2004 BIG EAST Conference Championship at the Nassau County Aquatics Center in East Meadow, N.Y.
