Syracuse Opens Season with a Sweep of Buffalo

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Junior Kristen Conway had 10 kills on 25 attempts, six digs and led the team with three service aces as the Syracuse volleyball team won its season opener, 3-0, against Buffalo on Wednesday, September 1. Syracuse won by scores of 30-18, 30-20 and 30-25.
Junior Aila Dommestrup recorded 29 assists, five digs and two service aces, and classmate Kelly Duan had six kills and led the team with eight digs. Four Orange players made their collegiate debuts. Ellen Bruegge notched seven kills and two total blocks. Joscie Kaup had two kills, five digs and one service ace. Jen Malcom recorded five kills and Cheryl Cobbina had three kills.
Senior Morgan Jones recorded four kills with a .500 hitting percentage. Sophomore Erin McQuillin had four kills and junior Kathryn Dercher had six digs.
The Orange next play over the weekend at the Army Tournament in West Point, N.Y. Syracuse opens the tournament on Friday, Sept. 3, against Rhode Island at 5:00 p.m.
