Orange Suffers First Loss Of The Season

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The Syracuse women’s soccer team (3-1-1) suffered its first loss of the season, 1-0, to Oakland University on Sunday, Sept. 12. Oakland’s Marianna Samdal scored the match’s only goal in the 63rd minute.
Senior goalkeeper Shannon Myers made two saves for the Orange to move into second place on SU’s all-time saves list with 170. Courtney Spencer and senior Natalie Galas paced the Orange offensive with five and four shots, respectively.
Laura Cowham led Oakland with three shots and Jessica Howard made four saves in the match to earn the victory.
Syracuse outshot Oakland 13-7 and held a 12-1 advantagen in corner kicks.
The Orange opens the BIG EAST season on Friday, Sept 17 at 7 p.m. when it plays St. John’s at Syracuse Soccer Stadium.
