Women’s Soccer Loses, 2-1, to #2 Notre Dame

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Syracuse senior goalkeeper Shannon Myers recorded a career-best 10 saves in a 2-1 loss to No. 2 Notre Dame on Sunday afternoon at SU Soccer Stadium. The Orange is now 4-2-1 on the season, 1-1 in the BIG EAST. The Fighting Irish improve to 8-0-0, 2-0 in the conference.
Notre Dame opened the scoring 14:22 into the game as Jen Buczkowski played a cross by Amanda Cinalli out of the air and into the net.
The Orange evened the score in the 79th minute as senior Kelly Bailie played the ball ahead to sophomore Molly McManus who fired it from 25 yards out to the upper right of the goal. It was McManus’ second goal of the season and Bailie’s third helper of the year.
Notre Dame’s Katie Thorlakson netted the game-winning goal with 7:11 remaining in regulation. Candace Chapman recorded the assist on the goal.
Myers stopped two open shot opportunities before Thorlakson gave the Irish the 2-1 lead.
The Orange was out-shot 16-7, and the Irish held a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks. Notre Dame goalie Erika Bohn registered one save on the day.
The Orange returns to action Thursday, Sept. 23 against Dartmouth at 4 p.m. at the SU Soccer Stadium. This will be the second game televised by Time Warner Channel 26 at a date and time to be determined.
