
Gervais Added to Canadian World Cup Roster

OTTAWA, Ontario - Former Orange men's soccer player Gabriel Gervais has been added to the Canadian World Cup Team roster for its qualifying match versus Costa Rica on Wednesday, Sept. 8. Gervais, who played at Syracuse from 1997-99, is a defender with the Montreal Impact of the A-League.
Wednesday's match will be Gervais' second with the Canadian World Cup Team. He participated in a friendly versus Barbados on January 18, 2004.
Gervais made an immediate impact upon entering the professional ranks. In his first season with the Tornonto ThunderHawks, Gervias was named to the NPSL’s All-Rookie Team after scoring 10 goals and 15 assists. He returned for his second season with the Rochester Rhinos in 2001 after helping the squad to the 2000 A-League championship. Gervais is in his third season with Montreal. He was named the A-League Defender of the Year in 2003.One of the most decorated Orange players in history, this two-time captain was named All-BIG EAST in 1999. Gervais was named first-team Fall/Winter CoSIDA Academic All-American in 1998-99. It was the second time that Gervais was named an Academic All-American, having been named to the third team in 1998-99.
Gervais led the Orange in scoring and was a first-team All-BIGEASTand first-team All-New York Region selection in 1999. He won the 2000 Soladay Award, the highest honor an SU student-athlete can earn.
