SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Orange men’s soccer team (5-5-2, 1-5-1 BIG EAST) continues its five-game homestand when it faces the Oneonta Red Dragons on Wednesday, Oct. 12 at the SU Soccer Stadium at 7:00 p.m. The Orange is coming off a 1-0 shutout victory against South Florida and looks to improve on its 5-2-1 home record.
Sophomore James Goodwin (Merrimack, N.H.) provided the winning goal against the Bulls on Sunday, netting the first of his career in the ninth minute. Freshman goalkeeper Robert Cavicchia (North York, Ontario) recorded fifth shutout of the season.
Both players were named to the BIG EAST Men’s Soccer Weekly Honor Roll on Oct. 10 for their performances in the match.
Redshirt freshman Pete Rowley (Reading, Pa.) leads the Orange in goals with five, while Isaac Collings (Oriskany, N.Y.) owns the team lead with four assists. Collings assisted on Goodwin’s game-winner against the Bulls.
Oneonta is 5-6-1 overall this season and holds a 2-0-0 mark in Atlantic Soccer Conference competition. The Red Dragons have won two out of their last three matches, sandwiching wins versus Adelphi and New Jersey Tech around a loss to Dartmouth.
Keith Manscuk and John Simone are tied for third in the conference with four goals each. Timothy Melia and Jeff Dudley have shared time in net this season. Melia has 26 saves in just under 693 minutes and Dudley has 19 saves in 405 minutes.
Syracuse is 11-6-1 all-time against the Red Dragons and has won the last seven meetings, including a 1-0 triumph last season. The last time the Orange lost to the Red Dragons was in 1988. In last year’s clash, Brad Peetoom (Abbotsford, British Columbia) registered his first career goal to lift the Orange to victory.
Admission to the match is free and gates will open at approximately 6:00 p.m., one hour before kickoff.
