SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The 2005-06 edition of the SU women's basketball team greeted the media for first time this year at the team's annual Media Day on Friday, Oct. 14 at Manley Field House. The team officially begins the 2005-06 season on Saturday morning with its first practice.
For an hour, SU players and coaches participated in interviews and photo shoots to promote upcoming season and give fans an inside look at this year's team. The squad also posed for its annual team photo to close out the one hour session.
The Orange will play 10 of its 13 home games in the Carrier Dome this season beginning with Massachusetts on Saturday, Dec. 10. Fans' first opportunity to glimpse this year's team in action will be on Saturday, Nov. 5 when the Orange host Bishops for exhibition game at 1:00 p.m. in Manley Field House.
Syracuse went 13-16 in 2004-05, posting seven more wins than it did the previous season. The Orange also notched its first postseason victory since 2001-02 with a 65-58 triumph versus Georgetown in last year's BIG EAST Championship. SU returns five letterwinners from last season, including returning starter Vaida Sipaviciute (Kaunas, Lithuania). Sipaviciute led the conference in blocked shots per game (2.2) and averaged 7.3 points per outing.
