Liz Cufari finished 33rd overall in the women's field

University Park, Pa. – The Orange men’s cross country team placed 19th out of 37 teams while the women tied for 16th out of 34 teams today at the National Open hosted by Penn State. Sophomore Kyle Heath (26:06) was the top finisher for the men while sophomore Liz Cufari (21:59) placed highest for the women.
Eastern Michigan won the Open on the men’s side while Duke captured the women’s field.
For the men, Heath, who finished 31st overall, was followed by junior David Wishart (26:40) who placed 81st. Junior Matt Lawson (26:54) followed him by finishing in 104th, and sophomores Benjamin Torvik (27:34) and Matthew Gervasio (27:44) rounded out the top five.
On the women’s side, Cufari placed 33rd overall. Freshman Nana Sang Bender (22:27) placed 58th overall behind Cufari, while junior Shelby Perkins (23:15) finished 111th. Rounding out the top five for the women was junior Katie Simon (23:22) who placed 120th and sophomore Meghan Rowcliffe (23:37) who finished 136th.
The teams are back in action when it competes in the Reif Memorial next Friday, Oct. 21, in Ithaca, N.Y.
