
Cross Country Competes In BIG EAST Championships Friday

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The men's and women's cross country squads head to Bronx, N.Y. on Friday to compete in the 2005 BIG EAST Championship at Van Courtlandt Park. The women kick off the action at 12:30 p.m., with the men's race following at 1:10 p.m.
In last season's BIG EAST Championship, the men finished in fifth place while the women finished 10th, which were both improvements from the 2003 season.
On the men's side last season, Chris Muldoon was the Orange’s first runner and finished in 26th place with a time of 24:51. Kyle Heath finished in 36th place with a time of 25:07, and John Graham finished three seconds behind him in 39th place. Rounding out SU’s top five were Matt Lawson and David Wishart in 45th and 50th, respectively.
On the women's side, Liz Cufari paced the women with a 22nd-place finish with a time of 21:32. Leah Folmsbee and Gabrielle Charbonneau had solid contributions with 49th- and 59th-place finishes. Kathleen Sanborn and Shelby Perkins finished 77th and 78th, respectively, to round out the women’s top five.
Providence is the reigning women's champion, taking the title from Notre Dame which had won the previous two years. For the men, the Fighting Irish narrowly beat Georgetown for the 2004 crown.
