The Orange men's soccer team has a perfect 3-0 record in games played in the Carrier Dome on October 5, including victories against Fairleigh Dickinson, Providence and Villanova. In 1986 the Orange recorded a 2-0 victory against Fairleigh Dickinson. In 1991 SU shutout Providence, 2-0 and in 1994, SU blanked Villanova, 3-0. The SU football team has a 2-1 record in games played on October 5 in the Dome, including a 1985 48-0 shutout of Louisville and a 42-0 shutout against Rutgers in 1996.
The Moscow Circus performed for the second of its three day tour in the Dome on October 5, 1990. The eight performances from October 4 through October 6, drew 47,099 fans, including the opening day performance which attracted more than 10,000.
In 1986 Scott Morrell scored both goals in the second half to lead the Orange to its 2-0 victory against Fairleigh Dickinson. In SU's 2-0 shutout of Providence in 1991 Nino Galich and Paul Young tallied the goals for the Orange. In 1994, Doug Prouty scored twice and Robert Irvine added a third in the Orange's 3-0 win against Villanova.
In the 48-0 victory against Louisville in 1985, quarterback Don McPherson scored on a 10-yard and two-yard rushes and completed a six-yard pass to Scott Schwedes for a third score, while Robert Drummond and Todd Philcox also scored rushing touchdowns.
Quarterback Donovan McNabb led the Orange to 533 yards of total offense in a 42-0 shutout of Rutgers in 1996. Five different players scored for SU. McNabb connected with Rolad Williams on a seven yard touchdown pass and scored on a 21-yard run, while Malcolm Thomas scored on runs of six and two yards. Terry Morris had a career-long 67 yard touchdown run and Keith Downing scored on a 42-yard run.
In 2002, Pittsburgh beat SU, 48-24, recording the Panthers first victory in the Dome since 1982.
More than 23.5 million people have passed through the revolving doors of the Carrier Dome since the building’s first public event on September 20, 1980. Throughout the 2005-06 SU athletics seasons the University will celebrate the first 25 years of the Loud House.
In the first 25 years of the Dome, more than 1,740 events were staged, including collegiate, professional and high school athletics events, University commencement, concerts, a circus, and community events. These activities are chronicled in the more than 100 photographs that are currently in the concourse of the Dome. Fans who attend events in the Dome can re-live the memories with these photos.
