SYRACUSE, N.Y.- The Syracuse women’s soccer team gave up three goals early against Connecticut as the Huskies came away with a 3-0 victory on a rain soaked Friday night at the SU Soccer Stadium.
UConn struck first when Brittany Taylor lofted a shot that snuck in the top of the goal to take an early 1-0 lead. The Huskies scored again just 26 seconds later when Meghan Schnur drilled a line drive shot to left side of the goal to open up a 2-0 lead in the sixth minute.
The Huskies took a 3-0 lead in the 11th minute when Elizabeth Eng passed the ball off to Brittany Tegeler who put a move on an Orange defender before firing a shot to the top shelf.
SU was able to contain the UConn offense for the duration of the opening half as the Huskies took a 3-0 lead into the intermission.
Syracuse came out playing hard in the second half. Kaitlin LaMothe (Wrentham, Mass) came close to getting the Orange on the board late in the game, however Connecticut goalkeeper Stephanie Labbe was there to make the save.
UConn improves to 10-2-1, 6-0-0 in the BIG EAST with the win, while SU drops to 3-7-4, 2-1-3 in the BIG EAST. The Orange will next be in action Sunday at 2:30 p.m. when the Providence Friars visit the SU Soccer Stadium.
