Orange Loses To Binghamton, 74-52

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Junior Tracy Harbut (Lexington, Ky.) scored a game-high 19 points as the Orange lost to Binghamton, 74-52, on Saturday, Dec. 17 in SU’s second game at the Carrier Dome. She also notched six rebounds and six assists.
Redshirt freshman Sara Antolick (Bethlehem, Pa.) collected a season-high 12 boards, one off of her career high. Freshman Jenny Eckhart (Libertyville, Ill.) tallied 13 points for SU, while sophomore Vaida Sipaviciute (Kaunas, Lithuania) added 10 points, snapping her streak of 20-point games at seven, which stands as the school record.
Laine Kurpniece registered a double-double for Binghamton with 19 points and 11 rebounds. She was 7-for-11 from the field in the game. Rachel Laws contributed with 12 points for the Bearcats.
Binghamton scored 26 points off of 19 Orange turnovers, while SU recorded just eight points off turnovers. The Bearcats had a strong effort from its bench with 22 points.
Binghamton started the game with an 11-2 run during the first 4:42. Laws and Kurpniece each had four points in the opening stretch. The Bearcats held a nine-point lead after Harbut scored a layup, but Binghamton responded with a 12-2 scoring stretch over the next four minutes to increase its lead to 36-17 with 3:40 left in the opening frame. Kurpniece sparked the run with four points. Binghamton held a 44-23 lead at the break.
After Kurpniece opened the scoring in the second half with a layup, the Orange poured in 13 unanswered points over the next five minutes to cut the deficit to 10, 46-36. Harbut sparked the run with six points. The Bearcats were held without a field goal for almost six minutes before Laura Sario sank a jumper at the 13:25 mark to extend Binghamton’s lead to 48-36. After freshman Cintia Johnson (Syracuse, N.Y.) drove to the hoop to cut the lead to 10 again, the Bearcats responded with a decisive 7-0 run capped by a Sario 3-pointer to bring the lead back to 17, 55-38, with 10:40 left to play. Binghamton held SU at bay after that and went on to secure its first-ever victory against the Orange.
SU is back in action on Dec. 20 when it travels to the state capital to take on Albany in a 5:00 p.m. game.
